The Extent crew will be back at Dirt Fest this year at campsites 56,57 and 59 come say whats up and have a brew. If you do not know what Dirt Fest is it is a 3 day long mountain bike festival full of fun single track mountain biking, camping and micro brew drinking at the Allegrippis Trail system at Raystown Lake. 2 updates in a week dang! Its been almost a year since I updated this thing lets see if we can keep it going. Continue reading for some more words and crew updates.

Its crazy how much people’s lives can change within a year but some things never change. I don’t think I will never stop getting a kick out of riding trails or watching my brother ride trails for that matter. Here he is doing an unlookback over the backline at the Beury Patch currently dubbed “Harriet Tubman”.

Also there has been some crew changes, upstate FBM shredder Joel Barnett no longer rides for us. He is a good old boy and was with us since we started this thing. He is still and will always be an awesome dude thanks for the support all those years man keep having fun.

The 2nd Annual Heathens Train Trail Jam is coming up on October 9th. It is making to out to be the best one yet. Lots of sponsors, all the lines are running smooth. Also there is going to be a hell of an after party at the Tommy T Compound right across the road with several bands playing and a huge fire.

3 man teams / $20 a team member to enter. Judged from top to bottom on style, passing stunts, and costumes. All money goes to purse they want to hook up the top three teams. Last year we had about 4 teams i think each first place team rider each got $120! Not bad for just having some fun in the woods with some friends.

While James was in Canada learning how to build log homes a video crew happened to be there to document the building process. Okay I’ll try and and include everything but still keep it short so here we go. Well when I got home from the GC I spent a week in Watertown, NY paddling the Inner City Wave with Elaine Campbell and she talked me into competing and that’s where it started.

This is a video that Elaine made from the sessions. After that the competing started in Connecticut, in the freestyle I took third the first day and second the following day so not a bad start. Then a few weeks after that my great west adventure started, the first stop was Reno, NV.  My good friend and long time riding buddy George Maroukis put me up for about a week during this I competed in the Reno Whitewater Fest I got eighth.  The next competition was in Buena Vista, CO but before that I spent some time in Utah paddling then some in other parts of CO paddling.  In BV I got thirteenth and that was where I got hooked up with LIquidlogic Kayaks.  Then it was time for the US freestyle team trials where I did not perform up to my ability, I got twenty fourth.  Then it was off to Vail, CO for the last contest, I had a very respectable fourteenth place finish.

In between all of the competing I still was able to ride my bike, go hiking, knitting, and some soul searching.  With each adventure I take I try and learn some thing new and something more about myself, when I paddled the GC it was about our impact on the earth, I think this trip was about simplicity.  I learned just how simply one can live.  Then is was home for weddings and work, but I recently was asked by Elaine to watch her animals while she went to Switzerland to compete in the World Championships (she made the women’s freestyle team).  I had two weeks of pretty good kayaking everyday and here is a short video of the good stuff. Now I’m off to West Virginia to do some fun Gauley River kayaking until next time keep your paddle in the water. -CK
